Product release

What's new in Omnis 7.4?

The full lists of new features and updates are available in each respective Release Note and can be found (in Swedish) under the Documentation-tab here. Changes can be summarized as:

700 TCP/IP Connections

The maximum number of TCP/IP-connections has been increased from 600 to 700.

  • Optimized thread management for the server resulting in lower workload per connection.
    • Minor imnprovements in the client, reducing loading times for certain windows i.e. Connection Status.
      • Requires the following license (2 pcs): VGBI:10726

        Improved Database Synchronization

The communication protocol for database synchronization between server and controller has been optimized resulting in significant increases in transmission speed.

        • Applies to manual database reloads
          • Applies to automatic database checks
            • Speed increases have been measured to between 5 - 46 times faster than previous versions.
              • Larger improvements can be seen as the size of database increases.

                Improved Database Security

The communication between Operator's Program (OPPGM), RBServer, and database have been migrated over to a more secure SSL-based solution.

                Scheduled Blocking of Inactive Cards

This new feature allows the user to select an inactive period for cards. If the card has not been used within the time period, it will automatically be blocked by the server.

                • Choose between 1 - 999 days of inactive time before blocking occurs.
                  • Choose time of day when blocking occurs.
                    • Choose predefined blocking reason.
                      • New blocking reason added to default database: 'Inactive'. Needs to be added manually to existing databases.
                        • When a card gets blocked, an event is presented in the new Server Event Queue.
                          • Applies to both cards and codes.

                            Server Event Queue

A new implementation, similar to the existing Event Queue, where server-based (instead of hardware) events are presented. For Omnis 7.4, only server-performed blockings of inactive cards are presented.

                            • When an event occurs, a new PC-symbol is shown in the client's bottom status bar, next to the existing Event Queue icon.
                              • Access to Server Event Queue is managed through PC Access Rights.
                                • Acknowledge and Archive events.
                                  • Edit cards/codes directly from Server Event Queue by accessing exising functionalities for such edits.

                                    Product release

                                    Live Log

The report option called 'Log' is now enhanced with the possibility to present continuous updates as new events occur

                                    • Available only to the Log-report.
                                      • "Play/Pause"-button added.
                                        • Log can be paused to prevent new events from being presented. When resumed, only new events from that point onwards will appear.
                                          • Pressing "Reload" will populate the log with events that occurred while paused.
                                            • For events with a related camera, the recording must first be completed before the camera-icon appears in the log and will therefore appear only after "Reload" has been pressed after the recording is available.

Support for new Alarm Transmitter: Edge RT7020

The new alam transmitter Edge RT7020 is now supported and can be connected directly to the E100 / E100-S.

                                              • Connects to USB-port on E100 / E100-S.
                                                • Supports clear/descriptive text "SIA Level 3"
                                                  • Supports alarm transmission over Backbone.
                                                    • Utilizes generic Firmware in Edge RT7020.
                                                      • Requires the following license per transmitter: V54508-P140-A100

In conjunction with support for the new transmitter, additional improvements have been made, affecting all transmitters.

                                                        • Checking the connection status to a transmitter now reports which protocol is currently active
                                                          • Choice of Transmitter Type and Protocol have been implemented.
                                                            Following Transmitter Types are available:
                                                            -RB120S

                                                            -Addsecure over ESPA

                                                                Product release

*Note around differences between protocols: There are some differences between BATP and Addsecure over ESPA, where BATP is of the type 'two-way communication'. This means it is able to communicate events to Omnis which require feedback from the transmitter. Such events will not function using Addsecure over ESPA, but can instead be tracked through the the alarm transmitter's own interface (Device Manager). For more information on how to wire relay-based feedback, please see the manual SE2-81198 Installationshandbok Komponenter.

                                                                • Preparations implemented for potential support of DALM transmitters with generic firmware.
                                                                  • Support for multiple Alarm Transmitter Media per transmitter has been reduced from 4 to 1.

                                                                    GUI Updates

The Operator's Program (OPPGM) has recevied numerous updates to its graphical user interface (GUI)

                                                                    • Updated frames for first level dialog boxes to align with modern Windows themes.
                                                                      • Updated design on tree views, i.e. Definition of System.
                                                                        • Updated calendar design for Door Control-window.
                                                                          • Updated background image.
                                                                            • Updated color theme to align with acre Security.
                                                                              • Possibility to choose between Dark and Light background.

                                                                                Force PIN-Assignment on First Access

To make sure all cardholders have a PIN assigned while still allowing them to choose their own PIN at a reader without revealing it to the card issuer, a feature has been implemented to force all cardholders to choose their PIN at first valid access at a reader, regardless if the current security level on that door does not require PIN.

                                                                                • Applies only to cardholders who have yet to choose their PIN.
                                                                                  • Forces PIN to be entered regardless of security level on door (i.e.' Card Only').
                                                                                    • Should not be used on sites where first valid access could occur at a reader without a keypad as this will result in unwanted behavior.

                                                                                      Configurable Amount: Incorrect PIN-attempts

A previously hardcoded feature is now unlocked and configurable by the user.

                                                                                      • Choose between 1 - 9 attempts (previously hardcoded to 3)
                                                                                        • Function can be turned off entirely (unlimited attempts)

                                                                                          Removed Features

The following features have been removed in Omnis 7.4.

                                                                                          • Functional testing of legacy hardware
The older generation hardware that has not been for sale the last 5 years, such as the E1 and E2V are no longer being tested for functionality with Omnis 7.4 and later.
                                                                                            • E1 Components
The following components are no longer part of the install package, but are still available upon request:
                                                                                              -E1 Loader
                                                                                              -E1/E1-S Firmware
                                                                                              • Alarm Transmitter Media, sequence numbers 2 - 4
Support for more than one Alarm Transmitter Media is removed in E100 firmware 7.7.0 and newer. Only the first sequence number (1) is to be used.
Sequence numbers 2 -4 are still available in the software for backwards compatibility, but should not be used for new installations.
